Hey Paul, as someone who goes back to the early days of Star Trek when you could still spot the "matte painting" background, I want to affirm all you said. As the series evolved into ST-TNG, Voyager, and DS-9, I enjoyed each series, in its own right, every episode, for the reasons you give, and all the Big Screen Trek movies (The Wrath of Khan, my favorite) which loosely stitch them all together.

But what I dug most about the whole series was that I learned something about myself, and the great wide galaxy with every episode. They were, in essence, morality plays. I think the best since Shakespeare. Sure, there were clunkers; how could there not be. But by far, the writers hit high marks.

Keep it rolling,

I think that your post answers this question, but if I wanted to give Voyager a try, is it a show that you'd recommend starting from the beginning, or would you say that "Year of Hell" is a good way in? i.e.. the Doctor Who episodes I begged you to watch, "The Girl in the Fireplace" and "The Empty Child", etc, entirely out of order but monumental / gripping enough to leave you wanting more.

Spoken like a true genius. I agree, I learn a lot more by reading a horrible book or watching a bad movie, I get this determination to write my novel better than they wrote theirs. Especially when I read & watched Twilight.
